Weekend Feeding Program
Backpack Buddies is a feeding program for children who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend during the school year. The Back Pack Buddies program will resume for the 2009-2010 school year. Grace has “adopted” 12 children at Cooper Elementary School who receive a backpack full of food they can prepare themselves every weekend during the school year. We are looking for donations of individual servings packaged food i.e. pop-top canned meats and fish; shelf stable fruit cups, applesauce, raisins and dried fruit; pop-top meat based soups and stews; healthy snacks such as graham crackers, pretzels and granola bars; individual packages of grits, cereal and oatmeal; microwavable Cup of Noodles, Easy Mac etc. All food donations can be brought to Grace on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 12:30. or on Sundays at the 10:30 a.m. Service.
Successful Grace Youth Mission Trip to Mississippi
July 19 - 27 2008
Grace Episcopal sent 7 young people and 2 adult chaperones to Mission on the Bay in Bay St. Louis Mississippi this past July to help in the restoration efforts in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. Three years after the devasting storm much work still needed to be done to restore the communities of the Mississippi coast. Local relief agencies on the Gulf Coast estimate the recovery will take several more years. Most of the work is being done by volunteers. Young people from Lutheran and Episcopal churches from around the country in grades 8-12 come for a week at time to help in clean up construction and just letting people know that they are not forgotten.
Christian Shepherding Group
The members of the Christian Shepherding Group were commissioned by the Grace Episcopal Mission congregation to be a sign of the church’s concern for the well being of the whole community of God’s children. The main thrust of the group is not evangelism but to be there, as Christians, for people in our community who have a need.
If you are troubled or ill and feel the need to have someone to share it with and help ease the burden, we are here. If you are ill or “shut in” and you want to partake in Holy Communion we have Lay Eucharistic Ministers who can bring you the sacrament from Sunday’s Eucharist at Grace. If you have problems that need special care we can call upon the congregation and the wider community to help you get that care.
If you want one of our members to call upon you contact the church office at 553 2810 or Becky Smith.
